GOOD ENOUGH

Petty Cassettes are the fresh and exciting Scottish band who are making big impressions with their perfect mix of upbeat indie alternative punk rock ‘n’ roll tunes with insanely catchy hooks and chorus lines.

The band is made up of David Philliskirk on main vocals and guitar,  Francesco Pasi on lead guitar , backing vocals and studio bass and Ciaran Gallagher on drums. The band first formed at the tail-end of 2018 and since then have treated us to a string of anthemic punked-up single releases.

Initially singer-songwriter David was earmarked to join alt. rock outfit St Providence, who also featured drummer Ciaran. When that band split up, the pair decided to start their own band and Petty Cassettes was formed.

Having been crowned Scottish Champions at SoundWaves Music Competition, Petty Cassettes have also supported former The Enemy bassist Andy Hopkins’ new band AutoPilot which put them firmly in the public eye receiving encouraging reviews and national and global airplay with the likes of Amazing Radio (UK and USA) and BBC Introducing. They ended last year performing at the legendary Barrowlands as support to Scottish 80s icons Hipsway.

Petty Cassettes last single release, ‘Rydo and Julianne’ was featured multiple times on BBC Scotland and performed really well on streaming services gaining over 5,000 streams on Spotify alone.

The Band are now back with their latest offering ‘Good Enough’. The track is being self released and is another sure fire hit. Starting off from the get go with electrifying, sonic guitar riffs, you’re transported into a reverb fuelled punk rock n roll track which then catches you off guard as the lyrics come in which have an undeniably indie-esque vibe to them. Coming in at just a dash over 3 minutes long, it’s a fast paced anthem of a tune to get any crowd going. At around the 2 minute mark there’s a lull in proceedings when lead vocalist David comes in with an almost hypnotic chant of “Good enough, what is good enough…”  The chanting lyricism and the incredibly tight and skilled instrumentals both build into a climatic crescendo so that when the final line is delivered, it’s with a crushing almost audible question mark handing over it. When David whispers his last “What is Good Enough?”, it’s with a devastating and lasting effect.

The band have said of the inspiration behind the track:

“The constant feeling of not being “good enough” is what led us to write this song. Whether it’s as a band, in our workplaces or in relationships we’re always under the impression we should have done more and we could have been more than what we are. In the end it’s about accepting who we are. The driving riff of the song and the open chorus are statements to the fact; we should be more grateful for what we have and who we are, we should take time off from the impossible expectations that society builds around us, so be true to yourself and be loved for who you are”

‘Good Enough’ was written and produced by the band and was recorded at Gorbals Sound recording studio in Glasgow and  was mixed by Kevin Burleigh with mastering by Babbe Matteo Donato.
