EVERYTHING YOU NEED

Skerryvore, from the Isle of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides on the West Coast of Scotland are brothers Daniel and Martin Gillespie along with Fraser West and Alec Dalglish, the latter two both hailing from West Lothian (a hotbed for Scottish talent that in recent years has brought us the likes of Lewis Capaldi, The Snuts and even Susan Boyle!)

The band have been making music together since 2004 after the West Lothian boys met the brothers while holidaying on the Isle, since then the bands ranks have swelled to 8, yes 8! With the addition of Craig Espie, Alan Scobie, Jodie Bremaneson and Scott Wood.

Their music centres around traditional West Coast Ceilidh, but over the years have taken on influences such as Rock, Pop, Jazz, Cajun and Country.

To the point that in 2020 their track ‘Take My Hand’ was remixed by legendary Scottish Dance DJ, George Bowie (GBX)

Skerryvore’s latest offering, ‘Everything You Need’ takes on a kind of 80’s pop sound, it’s got me hooked from the start with positive lyrics about better times to come, perfect for banishing the blues! It’s about making your own luck, trusting in time and believing in yourself.

Musically, the best way I can describe it……

Think HAIM’s ‘The Wire’ but with Runrig style choruses, not entirely sure it’s ever been done before and if you’d have told me beforehand I would have been sceptical but it works, it works perfectly!

This is pure and simply, a Synth Pop Ceilidh Crossover masterclass!!!

Be sure to check out Skerryvore, invest a bit of time in them and you’ll be singing that chorus before you know it.

“time will bring you everything you need”
