INTERTWINED

Vona Vella comprises twenty-one-year-old singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Izzy Davis and Dan Cunningham. The band officially formed in Autumn 2020, after Ross Godfrey from the band Morcheeba heard their (then-unreleased) single ‘Sun’ and decided to remix it. Once released it proved an instant viral hit, racking up over 1 million streams.

Vona Vella released their debut EP ‘Go Outside Forever,’ in early 2022, which was given a global review by none other than Paul Heaton and in January of this year a remix of the title track from the EP, ’GoOutside Forever,’ was featured in the hugely successful NBA2K23 video game.

The band are now back with their latest single release ‘Intertwined’.

The official sound of summer has arrived and it goes by the name of ‘Intertwined’ by rising indie dream poppers Vona Vella. ‘Intertwined’, a beautiful driving slab of indie pop heaven, features a delicious intertwining (sic!) of the vocals of Leicestershire’s answer to Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg, Vona Vella (Izzy Davis and Dan Cunningham) and reimagines Simon & Garfunkel for the 21st century.

With a title like ‘Intertwined’ you’d imagine it was a love song, but says Dan Cunningham: “It’s about having nothing to say to someone, never wanting to see them again. This person has ruined your trust and made you feel vulnerable and naive. Is it from personal experience? I couldn’t possibly comment!”

‘Intertwined’ by Vona Vella was released as a single through the Strap Originals label on Wednesday 7th June ‘23. ‘Intertwined’ is the third song (following the release of ‘Divine’ and ‘Thought We Were Falling In Love,’) to be lifted from Vona Vella’s eponymously titled debut album, to be released on Friday 28th July.

‘Intertwined’ was recorded at The Libertines’ Albion Rooms studio in Margate and produced by Jason Stafford (Jamie T, Sports Team, The Libertines) and Vona Vella. It will be available on CD, digital download and 12” black or coloured vinyl in orange or blue, two different ‘night’ & ‘day’ sleeves with other exclusive formats and signed items. All twelve tracks on the album were co-written by the duo: Dan playing the guitar and piano, with Izzy on guitar and flute… and joined by Jake Bott on drums.

Having toured last year supporting the Libertines, Tim Burgess and Morcheeba and last month Peter Doherty, Vona Vella performed at The Great Escape in Brighton along with a headline show in London and an appearance at Dot2Dot Festival in May and supported Reverend & The Makers in Bristol on June 11th at Dareshack. Further headline shows and festival appearances will be announced shortly.
