NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN

Albion are a London based six-piece band (seven if you count honorary member Eric Doyle (@techerical) !!) comprising of members from all over the UK. With influences ranging from The Beatles to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, from The Rolling Stones to Ludovico Einaudi, each set list and live show is always an eclectic mix of music. They cite themselves as sounding like The Pogues shaken up with a bit of Oasis, with a side of The Velvet Underground.

Albion proudly state that they “create art for art’s sake” and how they always aim to “inject each song with poetry and depth of meaning as well as to a blend foot stomping guitar riffs and rhythm sections, with poignant, reflective lyricism that details our times and troubles”.

On the 18th June, the band released their latest single ‘Nothing New Under the Sun’.

The new release is an absolute beauty and does not disappoint in the slightest with its glorious harmonious vocals and melodies being set to the back drop of some seriously clever instrumentals; there’s so much going on here you’ll need several listens to fully appreciate and take it all in!

The retro feel good vibe of this track will make sure it’s a must have summer playlist staple for any self respecting music fan.

The band have said of the track:

“The song deals with the mundanity and repetitive nature that we can sometimes feel overwhelmed by in modern life.”

And further that it is a “cry to be taken back to our youth when the world felt full of surprises and adventure”.

The tune came about when the lyrics were written almost in their entirety whilst singer, Ben, was watching an episode of Get Back.

He says that he was feeling very inspired and the words just simply “kept flowing”. The very next day the words were set to music.

The track was then finalised after the rest of the group injected it with that bounding energy and bittersweet harmonies that have become such a cornerstone of Albion’s music.

The track was recorded at The Albion Rooms in Margate with award winning sound engineer Jason Stafford.
