BEDROOM EYES’

Carrying the torch for women in rock music is Liverpool-based artist Leonie Jakobi. Attempting to build upon the legacy of artists like Suzi Quatro and Pat Benatar, Leonie takes inspiration from classic rock sounds whilst combining them with modern pop production. Making the personal universal, she confronts her audience with a merciless honesty in her relatable storytelling.

Hailing from Dreieich, a small town near Frankfurt, Germany, Leonie’s love of music was largely inspired by her late father’s band. With a classic repertoire including Springsteen, Bon Jovi and The Eagles, she was drawn into the nostalgia of American rock music from a young age. At just aged 12, Leonie took to the stage herself and has never looked back. Taking these classic influences and combining them with her lived experiences as a young musician on the borderline between millennials and Gen Z, she has fused her own original folk- and pop-inspired rock sound. Her intimate lyrics combined with anthemic hooks and pounding drums create a uniting, yet personal connection between artist and listener.

For the past half decade, Leonie has been an independent touring artist performing all over Europe from living rooms to festivals. Each performance has an emotional intimacy that transcends the spectacle of the live show and creates a lasting impression. The extent to which she cares about social issues becomes apparent in her natural presence and in her ability to listen to the audience’s own stories after the show.

Leonie Jakobi is now proud to unleash her new single ‘Bedroom Eyes’.

“Watch out for that one – she has bedroom eyes!” – This comment made by a doctor to the mother of the iconic Debbie Harry, the voice and face of legendary NYC band Blondie, when she was just a baby, stuck with Leonie. After reading Debbie’s biography “Face It”  largely about what it’s like to become an international sensation in the 70s, Leonie wrote ‘Bedroom Eyes’ to celebrate the strength and resilience it takes for women to get there.

‘Bedroom Eyes’ is an ode to all pioneering women in rock music and a powerful anthem about owning your life and enjoying it despite having to go through many trials and judgments The single is full of energy, electric guitars, and a no-nonsense attitude, making it an entertaining song to perform and listen to while getting ready for a night out in town – as can be seen in the official music video. ‘Bedroom Eyes’ is the second single to be lifted from Leonie’s upcoming EP release – ‘Nothing More to Say’ – which is due for release on 01/09/2023. The first single off the record ‘You Had Me at Goodbye’ was featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music show, BBC Introducing Merseyside (as well as a live at the showcase at the Cavern Club in Liverpool), Anfield Stadium and was also featured in a documentary aired on Sky TV called ‘Kick Out The Jams – The Story of XFM’ which tells the story of the incredible radio station and how it helped shaped the face of music today.

Reminiscent of current guitar bands like Larkin Poe, Dorothy and Barns Courtney, who can’t deny their own 70s influences, Leonie and her white Fender Stratocaster are preparing to travel to as many places as the post-pandemic world allows. After moving to Liverpool in 2018, Leonie quickly became part of the local music scene, with her singles being played across the globe already, she is determined to make herself a career in music as a self-made woman.
