RELEASED ‘BOOMBAP FOR BOOMERS’ ALBUM

LEWCA is an English singer/songwriter/musician now resident  in France, never having been one for convention, LEWCA started life being born in a squat in Brixton, and by the time he was aged nineteen, he was living in a squat in Paris… After studying fine art and dabbling in film, LEWCA started making music just before, in his own words, he was “too old to die young”. Influences for LEWCA range from decadence to debauchery and musically from the likes of  The Clash, The Streets, Ian Dury, ASAP Rocky, the Sleaford Mods, LCD Soundsystem, Bob Dylan, Eminem, Tom Waits, & more…

After being in a few bands that fell apart for various reasons, LEWCA decided to go it alone in 2018, his seriousness for a desire to succeed crept in, in around 2019, but then the pandemic hit in 2020 putting laid to his plans for a while. However, to be one to be deterred, LEWCA released his first EP in Dec 2020, with two more being released in 2021, then followed by a remix EP, a charity EP, and the Album; ‘Friday Night Rockstar’.

Previous releases have seen LEWCA being championed on the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music and featured in official Apple iTunes music charts.Although mainstream success seems not to be to high on his agenda, Lewca has found himself to have gained quite the cult status being revered by fans and fellow musicians alike, many of whom you’ll find featured on his tracks.

Although LEWCA collaborates with various different musicians on his projects his main partner in crime is S.O.A.P.(aka DJ Sonofapitch – Chinese man, Taiwan MC) who is a Parisian drum & bass DJ & Beatmaker whom LEWCA first met when they shared a billing at a gig together in 2013. Their partnership has grown from a shared love of wonky beats, UK soundscapes & a healthy dose of humour!

Since 2018 the duo have released 3 EP’s, & have been working together on two albums : “Friday Night Rockstar” which was released at the very end of 2022, & “Boombap for Boomers” which is released today Friday 15th September 2023.

‘Boombap For Boomers’ is an eclectic mix of beats, synths, and random instrumentals, starting off strong with a rousing bagpipe blasting and a guest introduction from Fire Up The Sun’s MC Burnoot who in a somewhat usual turn mocks and pokes fun at Lewca in his own domain, but if there’s one thing you should expect from this album and indeed Lewca in general, it’s the unexpected!

Having appeared on Fire Up The Sun’s debut album ‘Standard Patter’ in the past, it’s clear that these two are great pals who are out to have a bit of fun together on the making of this album and it sends a clear message from the outset that Lewca is a man who is comfortable and confident in his own skin so bring it on!

The first track on the album is ‘Peace of Mind’  and no two ways about it, this is a song about facing yourself the morning after the debauchery of the night before. Regrets and Mistakes I’ve made a few… we’ve all been there right!

Next up ‘Roundabout’ is a track about reminiscing on long summer days as a teenager seeking thrills without a care in the world at the height of the 1990’s. The track also reflects on how those emotions can be recaptured years later and the roundabout element of then witnessing your kids doing the same shit you once did. Musically it’s a cacophony of sounds jumping around excitedly.

‘I Got It All’ is Lewca shouting to the world how he already has all that he needs in this world and how he notes that fame and fortune perhaps aren’t all they’re made out to be. The message be happy with what you already have, you’re already richer than you think.

‘Day Job’ (featuring Mick Swagger) is a funky tune where Lewca and his guest vocalist summarise how the music industry is a tough place for independent artists and how they don’t know if or when like so many, they’ll be able to quit the day jobs!

‘Quite Like Me’ (featuring Elephant Man) now there’s a funny tale behind this one with the guest vocalist having been recruited to feature on the track when Lewca and his accomplice in crime and rhyme S.O.A.P. recruited the Jamaican dance legend, Elephant man, by calling him up one day when drunk! This song, although it comes with a funny anecdote, is a track with a message about learning to love just being yourself.

‘All Grown Up’ set to a drum n bass beat is a song about Lewca refusing to grow up. It features general kid chaos of noisy toys, talking and singing in the background adding  to the atmosphere,

Next up is ‘Monday Morning’ , a personal favourite off of the album. The track is heavily influenced with ska beats and trombone notes throughout (provided by Ian Williamson).. It’s a very happy go lucky soundtrack interspersed with very relatable story telling lyricism about the trials and tribulations of getting the kids off to school while dealing with a hangover.

‘Boombap For Boomers’ is a brilliant light hearted tune filled with self-deprecating lyrics, full of catchy hooks and rousing beats.

‘Discoboy’ (featuring Faya Braz) is another song with a message – don’t be a hater, live and let live, and enjoy yourself in the process by giving it your all on the dancefloor.

‘Internet Recovery’ Is full of 80’s inspired retro synth beats and dial up tones. Lyrically the track is a euphemism about revitalising your soul much like a computer reboot. Clever lyrics like “The last few decades I’ve been under the weather, My addictions and me are two birds of a feather… . Really emphasise the point.

Life, Innit? Is an autobiographical  tale where Lewca tells the story of his life and marriage over funky bass beats. .

Daydreaming (featuring OrangeG) really showcases another side to the artist. A more gentler side, rather than the joker we’ve all come to know and love. It shows a real human vulnerability. Musically the track starts off with a strumming banjo (from Orange G) that is accompanied by Lewca’s almost wistful thought provoking lyricism that is interspersed and layered with an electronic synths, and highly melodic and harmonious organs and harmonica notes leading to the final outro.
