STRANGER IN MY OWN SKIN

‘Stranger In My Own Skin’ is an honest and emotionally charged account of British rock musician, Peter Doherty’s darkest moments, as he plunges into the depths of drug addiction during his meteoric rise to fame with bands The Libertines and Babyshambles. Captured intimately on camera by his wife, Katia DeVidas, we witness Peter’s battle to overcome his demons and emerge from his darkness back into the light.

On Wednesday Angie headed to the Vue cinema in London’s West End where she witnessed the second exclusive premiere of the critically acclaimed documentary along with QnA session beforehand with both Peter and Katie.

Firstly, can I say how excited I am to share my thoughts on the Peter Doherty’s documentary and the Q&A session that accompanies it.

This documentary truly captures the raw essence of Peter’s life behind and in front of the camera – showcasing his struggles, triumphs, and chaotic journey.

Just when we thought we’d seen everything there was to see of a life played out so publicly in the press, Peter with the help of Katia, selflessly exposes his vulnerability even further. It’s like he’s inviting you into his own private never before witnessed world and sharing his innermost thoughts and experiences with you.

As someone who has experienced love with addiction it was a truly magical insight on both sides of the relationship between Peter and Katia. Though some of the film was a little bit triggering for me at times, it was also another reminder of Peter uniting all of us who can relate to the struggles.

Once again I feel seen and validated, something he’s managed to consistently do for me all my life.

Katia beautifully portrays their view of the world, giving viewers a deep insight into his creative process and unique perspective through her eyes.

I’m very grateful to the pair of them to trust us with sharing these intimate and sometimes painful moments

I went into the cinema this evening a fan but I left feeling more like a friend.

This documentary is well worth watching for anyone with a soul, I defy anyone not to feel moved and inspired by it. Through every hardship and downfall, love prevails and recovery is possible.

Thank you Peter and Katia.
