A LIVE REVIEW – NEW CENTURY MCR

Wrexham born band, The Royston Club, is an indie four piece made up of Tom Faithful (Lead vocals and Rhythm guitar), Ben Matthias (Lead guitar), Sam Jones (Drums) and Dave Tute (Bass). Since forming in 2019, they have gone from strength to strength with a successful debut album, ‘Shaking Hips and Crashing Cars’ and a near-sell out tour. The Royston Club took to a sold out show at Manchester’s New Century Hall on the ‘Shaking Hips and Crashing Cars’ Tour to play a 14 song set on the 28th October.

Opening up the show, was Birmingham band ‘Overpass’ who definitely warmed up the crowd with their well known hit ‘3AM’ and new single ‘It’s Alright’. With their own headline show at the deaf institute in March already being a sell out, its firm to say that this indie band have a very bright future ahead of them.

Following up for the headline act, The Royston Club took to the stage for one of their biggest shows to date and were met by a roar of cheers from the audience, opening with their well-known hit ‘Blisters’.

Throughout the set, the crowd clung onto the band and the entire room was bouncing and shaking their hips (as the album title instructs) to album tracks including ‘Mrs Narcacist’ (a clear favourite with the crowd) and ‘Mariana’. The band were electric and a not a hint of nerves could be seen across the stage from the indie upcomers.

Giving the fans what they want, the band also delivered fan favourites as well as new album tracks including ‘Tangled up’ and ‘The backburner’ which sent the crowd wild and filled the venue with the bands lyrics.

Having only one album under the belt can be difficult when performing a full headline show, but these boys made it look effortless and only left the crowd with a desire for more.

With the band still being in the early stages of their career, it’s very exciting to see what else this band will offer as they continue to grow. It is evident that the fanbase is ever growing and that they have a very long career ahead of them and it will certainly be one to watch.
