“The absolute legends Tenacious D finally returned to Scotland after 11 years to bring “The Spicy Meatball Tour” and they did not disappoint!!

Tenacious D is a comedy rock duo made up of icons, Jack Black and Kyle Gass! And when they took to the stage on Thursday night in The OVO Hydro in Glasgow, the crowd was in awe and full of anticipation about what the duo had in store. Kicking the show off with the classic, “Kickapoo”, they immediately swung into action and had the crowd screaming along!

Now I was lucky to be upfront for the first few songs to do photography and was amazed at not only the musically talented performance Tenacious D we’re giving, but also their use of facial expressions and comical body language for each song was incredible.

They went on to perform “Low hanging Fruit” and “Rise of the Fenix” before doing their first little comedy bit of the night by introducing their dodgy pyro guy (Biffy Pyro…brilliant) who I believe was Dave hill the support act with a giant board with a red button who claims the pyro was not working but then it proceeded to go off at any point in the show, at the most random and unnecessary moments which was absolutely hilarious.

I love the way they integrate comedy and rock music in such a unique way. They had the crowd singing and howling with laughter and the vibes for the entire night were just immaculate.

My favourite song of the evening had to be “Wonderboy” as it’s always been my favourite Tenacious D song and to hear it live really was a bucket list moment for me personally.

The party continued on with the iconic song “Tribute” as a giant inflatable Satan popped up behind the duo. Followed by the song “The Metal” in which a giant metal robot appeared onstage and chased about Jack and Kyle!

Adding in more comedy sketches along the way, the duo had a Sax-a-boom competition (that Kyle surely won with his giant sax-a-boom playing a rendition of Paisley born Gerry Rafferty’s Baker Street). Then an altercation with their roadies (whilst dedicating the song Roadie to them) leading into Kyle quitting the band and Jack singing a heartfelt apology “Dude (I totally miss you) which inevitably brings him back!

Heading towards the end, the duo performed belter after belter, with “Beezleboss (The final showdown)”, which their guitarist became possessed by Satan to a beautiful cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game. Before ending their phenomenal set with “The Spicy Meatball song” (of course) and “Fuck her gently).

I was in stitches and singing my heart out with a sold out Glasgow crowd and it honestly felt like one of those once in a lifetime moments. Tenacious D put on one hell of a unique performance that is easily in my top 10. If the lads are ever in your city, I would definitely recommend seizing the opportunity to witness the phenomenon for yourselves. Unreal. “
