Rapturous are a five-piece band from Kent who have carved out a distinctive alternative rock sound in their own right. Although, to say that they are purely an alternative rock band would be doing them a disservice due to the other genres and influences (based primarily in hip-hop) that they bring to their tracks at the flick of a switch.

Rapturous have released a steady string of singles over the last few years, including Repeat After Me, recorded at London’s Strongroom Studios and released in April of this year. Now, Rapturous are back with their second release of 2024 with Just Another Monday.

Just Another Monday distils the ever-imposing monotony of the working week thanks to frank vocals, whilst plucky guitars keep the verses upbeat melodically. The difference in texture between the vocals and the guitars, in the first thirty seconds, are reminiscent of Kasabian’s L.S.F. Like Kasabian, Rapturous also poke and play with being a lost soul with pointed lyrics early on, ‘Take me back to when I didn’t feel.’

Guitars then let loose and symbols crash for the (dare I say rapturous?) chorus. More pointed lyrics linger uncomfortably in the mind such as ‘A merry-go-round I can’t get off, tell me will it ever stop?’ And then, ‘So I won’t do this again, but you just watch me next weekend.’ The two lines are separated by a rich and inspired, almost glam rock, riff to remind us that it’s not all doom and gloom.

Just Another Monday then switches up into a hip-hop led verse. It’s a refreshing jump-up blend that takes inspiration from a mix of Plan B and Jamie T. However, Monday, and the rest of the working week still looms large. The line, ‘It gets harder dreaming of your Friday lager’, is likely to strike a poignant chord with many who listen to Just Another Monday.

The track also observes and, at times, celebrates the passing of time by setting out reasons you should get out of bed on a Monday morning, however much you might not want to. By touching on themes of family and working hard for those who depend on you, Just Another Monday is wholly relatable and a track you can route for.

Just as easy to route for are the laser-like riffs that chug and cut across each other as the track reaches its crescendo. Just Another Monday reminds us that the working week is persistent but that it can be improved significantly when you find accomplished new singles, such as this one.
