With a sun-drenched West Coast vibe, soft-rock grooves, and star-quality vocals reminiscent of Stevie Nicks, Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals are making waves on the British music scene. Their bohemian-chic aesthetic, soaring potential, and captivating sound have drawn inevitable comparisons to the fictional band Daisy Jones & The Six. And as their new single Chrysalis takes flight, it’s easy to see why.
Chrysalis, their latest release, captures the essence of storytelling folk-rock with a soft yet energizing punch, blending heartfelt lyricism, lush melodies, and powerful musicianship. Written by Bailey with Ian Barter (known for his work with Amy Winehouse) and produced by Josiah Manning, Chrysalis is a song about transformation, offering a metaphorical rebirth that mirrors the band’s own evolution.
Bailey’s passionate, velvety voice delivers the track’s central message of hope and determination, while the male vocal harmonies from her bandmates add a dynamic counterpoint. The balance between the feminine strength of Bailey’s lead and the tight harmonies of the band lends the song a richness, a sound that Bailey says truly defines who they are as a group.
“Chrysalis is about rebirth and transformation, which ties beautifully with our emergence as a band,” Bailey shares. “When we were playing it on tour, we could feel the energy really shift, and we knew that we’d got something pretty special. That energy carried through into the studio, and the result is probably the closest we’ve got to capturing the essence of who we are as a band, and how we sound live.”
It’s that live energy that has been winning over audiences at major gigs, including supporting slots for Simple Minds and Keane, and appearances at key festivals like Black Deer, Boardmasters, Wilderness, The Long Road, and The Great Escape. Their ability to capture the spirit of their live performances in the studio sets Chrysalis apart as an authentic representation of their unique sound—rooted in timeless folk-rock traditions but forward-thinking in execution.
The band’s rise feels as organic as their sound. Based in St. Ives, Cornwall, Bailey first made waves with her solo track Astronaut, a hit that reached #1 on the iTunes video chart, outpacing global superstars. Country legend Brad Paisley even weighed in, comparing Bailey to the likes of Taylor Swift and Emmylou Harris. Despite the buzz around her solo career, Bailey found that she was more at home within the synergy of a band, alongside her partner Jordan Lee Collins (guitar), Tadhg Cullen (bass), Callum Masters (drums), and Daniel Woodfield (saxophone).
Their combined influences ranging from The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac to Sheryl Crow and Sam Fender infuse the band’s music with both nostalgic warmth and modern energy. And with each release, they are building momentum toward bigger and better things.
As Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals prepare to take the stage at London’s The Slaughtered Lamb on September 25th for a Live Nation-presented show, the buzz around the band continues to grow. With Chrysalis capturing the magic of their sound and live performances that are leaving audiences captivated, it seems like only a matter of time before Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals step into the spotlight as the next great British rock act.
