‘On It’ does nothing to defuse the claims of bad boy behaviour. The track describes being uninvited to a party but brushing that off by sticking on the sunglasses and fronting it out, and these lads certainly have plenty of front.

Chelmsford trio Bilk have shared their new single ‘On It’ from their forthcoming second album ‘Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll‘, which is due to drop on 24 th January. Bilk consist of Sol Abrahams (vocals and guitar), Luke Hare (bass) and Harry Gray (drums) and the boys have been providing a bit of much needed rock and roll behaviour in recent weeks including getting banned from Rough Trade following a chaotic in-store performance. The Essex trio became the first ever band to be banned from legendary music shop Rough Trade following a rather over enthusiastic performance earlier in the year, albeit the moshing crowd must take their share of the blame.
Bilk are developing a name for being wild and notorious, and their latest single ‘On It’ does nothing to defuse these claims of bad boy behaviour. The track describes being uninvited to a party but brushing that off by sticking on the sunglasses and fronting it out, and these lads certainly have plenty of front.

The song is dripping in attitude with an in-your-face quality that demands to be listened to. The guitar riff to the chorus channels early Monkeys but the words are ripped from the pages of a certain Mike
Skinner’s lyrical book. Abrahams describes a party scene that no doubt will be occurring all over the country tonight, and it captures that excitement of youth and wild abandon.
The bouncing bass holds the song together, as the guitars thunder to a peak before dropping back out apart from the odd screech, representing the 5am after party. The space of the guitars induces the weariness and confusion that creeps in after ingesting various substances through the course of the night, before someone picks you up again. There is no clever hidden meaning within the song, it’s a pure celebration.
First single ‘F Up’ was equal spunky but more carefree. ‘On It’ leaves this writer intrigued to hear the album. Everything that goes up, must come down and it will be interesting to hear if the aftermath of the decadent nights out is captured on the album.
