“A PUNK POET WHO IS USING HER VOICE AND HER MUSIC TO DEMONSTRATE SOCIETAL INJUSTICES”

Singer-songwriter Gemma Rogers packs a punch with her 21st-century kitchen sink commentray style of songwrting and singing into her latest four-track EP No Future’.

The ‘ No Future’ EP has a varied feel and sound to it mixing elements of Punk, New Wave and Synth-pop genres at ease.

The ‘No Future’ EP, which is out now is released on 12” vinyl and digital formats via Ode to Records. The four track EP shows the full breadth of Gemma’s sound, combining punk edginess with luxurious synthpop and undeniably catchy songs, capturing her raw energy.

The ‘No Future’ EP:-

  1. Coming For The Top
  2. Death Knocked UP
  3. Never Have I Ever
  4. No Future

The Tracks of ‘Coming For The Top’ and ‘DKU’ have been previously released by the artist and the track of ‘No Future’ was released along with the EP by Gemma Rogers on the 20th September. The final track of ‘Never Have I Ever’ is set for release on the 25th October via a digitial push only and with an accompanying music video.

The tongue-in-cheek, eye rolling ‘Death Knocked Up (DKU)’  is an information overload, a seemingly never ending list chanted over a synth back beat. “life’s too short for being boring, would you wanna know the day you die? Save the date for deaths departing, choose your future choose life!”

‘Coming For The Top‘ tells the story of political hierarchy and how the ordinary working class man is overlooked – how he’s struggling to survive in today’s world why those who are running the country are quite the opposite. Its fast paced and punchy throughout and with lyrics like “not the left, not the right, but the bottom and were coming for the top ….and we wanna see them drop.” – this is a song that is means business and is fighting for change.

The full on punky offering of  Never Have I Ever’  is a hard hitting, and thoght provoking track on why there seems to be a normalisation happening of sexual violence directed at women. Its a no barrs held track that is asking people to wake up and see the reality of the situation and to do something about it.

“I thought it was worth exploring and comparing my attitude to men by looking at things I’ve never done or said to a man, she says, Things that would seem bizarre or wrong; but these bizarre or wrong actions from a man to a woman are somehow normalised by some.

The title track of ‘No Future’ is filled with a dark, brooding energy as the tension builds, theres a stand off as a spaghetti western twang rings out and Gemma’s clear and precise vocals kick in. The synths are then ramped up and the chanting chorus hook crescendo builds. – The track is in contrast to the punky ethos of the rest of the EP. It was writen in collaboration with producer Fi Mac who brought a lighter touch to the track allowing Gemma to explore another, more sensitive side to her music.

That being said, we beleive that Gemma Rogers is a young star who is going to use her power and her music to fight for change. She sees the injutices in the world and she naturally has a talent for voicing her own demonstraions, rallying the troops through the medium of her music.

NO FUTURE is available to buy and stream now and the vinyl is being stocked in ROUGHTRADE, JUNO, DASH THE HENGE & VINYL VANGUARD in Walthamstow.
