Jake Bugg treated his hometown crowd to not one, but two sets at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham.

Each set was ticketed so I caught the first of two intimate sets, with Jake and his acoustic (no band). He opened with the title track from his latest album, and rifled into Zombieland. His set comprised of old and new, with crowd favourites Broken, Slumville Sunrise, and Lightening Bolt.

The crowd often fell silent, not due to a poor crowd, it was simply a beautiful evening of listening to the plucking and vocal process of Jake.

I wrote the Book and All Kinds of People were particularly enjoyable having heard these live for the first time.

There were a few notable moments of phone recording which doesn’t usually bother me too much but tonight especially, it was not a set to be recording or taking photos, it was to be in the moment and enjoying the acoustic songs of this Clifton born singer songwriter. The set was around 45 minutes long, with Lightening Bolt creating the singalong moment for crowd interaction, so much so that Jake added an extra chorus at the end.

A great night. Make sure to see Jake on the road, with or without his band, and listen to his new album a Modern Day Distraction, his sixth studio release can you believe!
