” A clever look back at a simpler times of childhood when you are desperate to be older, only to find out when you get there that its not all its cracked up to be, all set to a melodic and thought provoking tempo adding to the overall nostalgic vibe of the track.”

Following their recent release of ‘Last One Running‘ back in November, Oxford based indie 3-piece
The Mezz, made up of front man Benji Comley on vocals and guitar, Charlie Emmons on drums and Mikey White on bass. The band are now back with their follow up single ‘Sleeping In Cars‘.

Taking a trip down memory lane, Benji says “Sleeping In Cars is a song about our childhood. We
grew up in a working class town, and this song is a reflection of being a kid in these towns in the early
2000s. In the verses you will hear tales about being a child coping through school days to Christmas
time, in a nostalgic trip for everyone that grew up in that similar enviroment with the same types of characters around them.”

Full of atmospheric and ethereal guitar tones, a driving drum groove, ‘Sleeping In Cars’ is a journey for the listener with its layered with subtleties of synth pads and piano chords forming a structured soundscape. lyrically that track is reflective of childhood and adolescence.

“In the choruses you see the protagonist dreaming of change as most kids do, only to find out when it (growing up) finally comes, those are the moments you miss the most.”

Adding to the nostalgic vibe of this track, the band actually recorded the song in bassist’s, Mikey’s childhood home. They turned his old living room into a makeshift live performing room to capture the sounds of their past.

The Mezz are set for a busy year ahead. After ending 2024 on a high, having played major festivals such as the Isle Of Wight Festival and sold out shows across the UK, the 3-piece are heading into the new year with festival slots already confirmed for 2025, more tracks ready for release and a debut headline tour in the pipeline, paired with exciting O2 Academy support slots from Bournemouth to Edinburgh.
