The Sheffield Brtipop defining super group are back on top form like they never left with their new single ‘Spike Island’ to be taken from the upcoming album, ‘More’.

The latest single follows the sell out come back tour – ‘This is what we do for an encore’ and ‘Spike Island’ is a funky, pop classic that carries that unmistakable PULP sound that we all know and love.

Filled with that much loved swagger and snarl of front man Jarvis Cocker delivering his beautifully poetic thoughts on social consciousness in a totally self-depreciating manner.

The opening lines of “Something stopped me dead in my tracks I was heading for disaster and then I turned back I was wrestling with a coat hanger, can you guess who won?” pronounced and drawn out in that ever so familiar South-Yorkshire drawl, will have you hooked from the get-go.

The chorus hook of “And by the way, Spike Island came alive. This time I’ll get it right, oh”, (being a reference to the Stone Roses’ legendary 1989 gig on the industrial banks of the Mersey) – will have many a festival crowd singing along in unison this summer, of this we’re sure!

The song’s instrumentation is a constant rhythm section with a punk attitude allowing Jarvis’s vocals to take the centre stage. Lyrcially the track appears to be an introspective look at his own life perhaps with the added wisdom of hindsight “Not a shaman, or a showman, ashamed I was selling the rights I took a breather, and decided not to ruin my life I was conforming to a cosmic design I was playing to type Until I walked back to the garden of earthly dеlight” seemingly offering the listener an insight into his own career struggles and highs and lows.

Towards the end the track reaches a joyous climax with the whole band seeming to hit a united peak. It really feels that they’re having fun here and the outro chorus with the iconic Jarvis Cocker ‘Oohs’ and ‘Aahs’ will leave you in a state of bliss before a delicious synth beat closes the track out.

The brand new album from PULP “More” is due for release on the June 6th 2025 and is available to pre-order now.

PULP are also due to head out on tour across the UK and Ireland in June with a special set of Gigs at LA’s Hollywood Bowl with LCD Soundsystem.
