Those Heavy Souls is the solo project of Cardiff-based singer / songwriter Craig Lewis.

Craig is no stranger to the music industry having spent the last 4 years as the frontman to the popular and successful indie-rock band Columbia, who over the course of their time together, the band released the album โ€˜Embrace the Chaosโ€™ (2022), which was described by Edge of Arcady as ‘equal parts Led Zepplin and Oasis at their swaggering peak’. The album included a number of hit singles which were described by This Is The Music as  ‘full of thumping drums, rumbling bass line and epic guitar riffs that were destined for stadiums’.

Following the disbandment of Columbia in late 2022, Craig decided to pursue a solo music career and has been busy working with producer Andrew Sanders and Small Miracles guitarist Steven Kenward at Kings Road Studios in Cardiff.

Together the trio have created a unique new sound that resonates deeply with Craig allowing him to explore his own musical path free from restraint of being in a band allowing him that creative freedom,  and the results are looking extremely promising1

The debut โ€˜Those Heavy Soulsโ€™ single โ€˜Everything’s Changingโ€™ was released in May 2024 and this was followed up with the releases of โ€˜How Highโ€™s Too High?โ€™ and the seasonal 4 track EP โ€˜It Feels Like Christmasโ€™ (which has attained over 7k Spotify streams)

The latest offering from Those Heavy Soulsโ€˜Come Aliveโ€™ is an acoustic led number absolutely bursting with an infectious high energy tempo.

Itโ€™s a hard-hitting earworm of a track with pounding drums and thrashing guitars that surge with an electrifying momentum thatโ€™ll have you hooked from first listen.

Vocally, the track strikes with an emotive intensity. The vocals are allowed to shine without overpowering or detracting from the instrumentals.

Craig has said of the track:- โ€œItโ€™s a song thatโ€™s been knocking around since the back end of Columbia days. Iโ€™d written the verse around the time we were recording the album โ€˜Disorder and Chaosโ€™ and have always loved the energy of it. Itโ€™s a song about battling your way through life when it gets rough. Realising that things arenโ€™t great but putting your best foot forward. Itโ€™s got the โ€˜Yma O Hydโ€™ spirit, which means โ€˜weโ€™re still here, and weโ€™re still fightingโ€™. The line โ€˜the sky is fallingโ€™ is representative of life sometimes crashing down on you.โ€

โ€œThe song was recorded early in 2024 and has always been earmarked as the 3rd single. But the version that will be released is quite a bit different from the original demo and recording, as there wasnโ€™t any middle 8 included. When I first heard it played back to me I knew it needed something else. It just didnโ€™t hit quite right. So I wrote the middle 8 verse and then decided to get Asha Jane in, who Iโ€™d worked with on the Columbia single โ€˜Glory Peopleโ€™. She came into the studio for a couple of hours and absolutely smashed it again! And what youโ€™ve got now is an absolute belting final chorus that sounds massive!”

โ€˜Come Aliveโ€™ gives fans an exciting glimpse of whatโ€™s to come from the forthcoming album, which promises to be packed with massive, high-energy tracks designed to blow the roof off any venue.

Although Craig is predominantly focusing on a solo career, is also joined in his musical vision by other creatives.

The track โ€˜Come Aliveโ€™ features Craig Lewis on vocals/guitar, Andrew Sanders on drums, Steven Kenward on bass/lead guitar and Asha Jane on backing vocals. The track was recorded at Kings Road Studio in Cardiff and was mixed and mastered and produced by Andrew Sanders
