They’ve earned praise from all-time icons like Fleetwood Mac legend Lindsey Buckingham and current big names Lottery Winners and Blossoms, and now it’s time for Eighty Eight Miles to earn the bigger recognition that their talents deserve. The first step comes with the release of their brand new single ‘Always On the Run’, while their packed upcoming summer festival takes them to the Isle of Wight, Truck and many more.
‘Always On The Run’ encapsulates exactly what makes Eighty Eight Miles such a compelling proposition. Their sound is a rare mix between two genre spaces – the sleek harmonies and bright tones of classic Californian folk-rock with the grit and energy of the contemporary indie scene – while Ellie Grice has a voice of distinction that swirls between soulful grace, fiery power and bluesy passion. Boosted by some ‘80s-tinged synth textures, the song’s theme is relatable for overthinkers everywhere: there are some problems that you just can’t run away from.

Ellie says, “This song comes from a place of needing distance from a version of yourself and realising that the only way forward is away from it.”
‘Always On The Run’ was written by the band and produced, mixed and mastered by Mark Gittins at Megatone Studios in Birmingham.
Completed by Ellie Grice, Bekka Redfern, Dan Hobday, Max Betts-Patel and Ollie Newbury, the Midlands-based Eighty Eight Miles were united by shared influences past and present: from The Mamas and The Papas and Fleetwood Mac to Duran Duran and onto Blossoms and Declan McKenna. Their name is a reference to ‘Back To The Future’: an appropriate choice as if they put their mind to it, they can achieve anything.
And they’re already firing ahead despite having previously released just eight tracks. Their burgeoning reputation has been earned following shows with bands including Lottery Winners, The K’s, Red Rum Club and Overpass, while airplay has included BBC Introducing and Radio X.
Having already played The Great Escape, Bearded Theory and Stag & Dagger this year, Eighty Eight Miles are set to play their biggest headline show to date at Birmingham’s O2 Academy 3 this Saturday, which is already sold-out. They will then spend the rest of the summer on the festival circuit, including headlining the This Feeling stage at the Isle of Wight and Truck.
