Southampton band The Latest have released a Baby Reindeer inspired single, ‘City Streets’.
The hit Netflix show followed the story of a struggling comedian dealing with an infatuated female stalker and the dark trauma which followed.
The song itself feels like a juxtaposition to the themes depicted in the series. It’s starts with a wiry, wining riff that’s complimented by a bluesy bassline and roaring drums. Everything you’d expect from a fast-paced indie anthem.
It has the feel of a track designed to fill dancefloors and get crowds dancing, but the lyrical content is restraint and raw.

The trio consists of Jim Patterson (Guitar and vocals), Tommy Fletcher (Bass and backing vocals) and Sim Cracknell (Drums).
Patterson told The Songbird HQ
“I basically wrote the song City Streets when I was watching the Netflix series Baby Reindeer. I didn’t realise it at the time but subconsciously, the series definitely rubbed off on my songwriting. The lyrics kind of make sense now when I think of that show and Camden.”

He continued “It’s also got a good groove, and you can definitely have a little bit of a dance to it when we play it live.”
Patterson recently partook in a songwriting retreat/camp hosted by Carl Barat (The Libertines, Dirty Pretty Things) at the Libertines hotel/studio, The Albion Rooms in Margate.

Along with 14 other musicians from around the world, he spent a long weekend bringing his ideas before the indie legend and was given solid advice on which direction to take them in.
The band continued their relationship with the sound studio recording ‘City Streets’ at the Albion Rooms with their sound wizard, Jason Stafford. Frontman Patterson will also be performing a few songs at the Albion Rooms this weekend as part of their 12 Musicians of Christmas event.
