As anticipation builds towards The Enemy’s first album in a decade, the band have released a new single and accompanying music video, ‘Trouble’.
The Coventry band’s resurgence is plain to see, as they sold out all ten of their UK autumn headline shows, fuelled by the excitement of new songs in the setlist.
After releasing the single ‘Not Going Your Way’, new track ‘Trouble’ ramps up the excitement for the new album, ‘Social Disguises’, releasing February 20th .
This new single, which was one of 90 demos the band created in an influx of creativity, has everything you’d expect from The Enemy. From riotous riffs and punkish sneers to high energy and gritty vocal delivery.
Rather than a change in direction for the trio, this feels like them solidifying the ethos they’re known for. They’re putting the world to right in their own way and addressing issues that are sure to resonate with their fans.
Frontman Tom Clarke says, “Trouble has always felt to me like the spiritual successor to ‘Had Enough’. It’s a driving two-chord rant. I think every generation has, or will at some point experience the sensation that culture is changing and that they’re struggling to keep up.”

He continues “Trouble is about the moments of exasperation when you experience that struggle. When you realise you’re no longer part of counter-culture, or sub- culture, when you’re in that grey area between being anti-establishment, and being the establishment.”
The accompanying video, in poignant black and white shows the band in their full-on intensity reminiscent of their live shows, as they roar their way through the single. Although it appears to lack in bells and whistles, I feel the simplicity perfectly conveys the message the band are showcasing.
This new era doesn’t stop at a new album for the Coventry rockers, as they embark on some of their biggest shows to date next year. They’re already emerging on festival slots and a coveted support slot with Ocean Colour Scene.
