Tell us about BRSR – Who are you, how did you come together, what genre of music do you make?

BRSR (pronounced Bruiser) consists of David Roberts, Matt Aitchison, Chloé Johnston, Kieran ‘Specs’ Gallacher and Drew Young. We’ve always found it hard to describe the vibe/genre we feel suits us best, but if you like heavy rock and hard hitting sounds then you won’t be disappointed.

How was the process of making the album? What obstacles did you have to overcome?

We basically started out with nothing, played a couple of shows with songs that were written in a day that we couldn’t ride off of for long. So Matt came into the room with this full body work and we just got straight to it. Back then, we had Kyle McGhee drumming for us before Drew stepped in. All the drums on the album is Kyle, it would genuinely not be the animal it is without him.

We recorded the foundation with James Smith, a lovely man who took it upon himself to convert an old church up in the Highlands just outside of Oban, called St. Mary’s Space. We spent roughly 4/5 days there recording the album fully live as we believe that the best version of hearing a band is live. We added the finishing touches with our good friend Gianluca Bernacchi in Rev Studios based in Glasgow. We spent many, many hours reworking vocals, guitar parts whilst watching possibly every replay of darts matches YouTube has to offer. The album wouldn’t be where it is if it wasn’t for Gian.

What can we expect from your debut album?

It’s an album full of raw emotion, power and the feel of a live performance. There are separate stories in this album which all surround mental health and physical struggle and we hope that the listener can understand and find themselves relating to the words and stories within the album.

What’s next for BRSR? What are you looking forward to doing most?

Up next we have our album launch party on the 14th of March in Rocco’s Music Lounge on Mitchell Street in Glasgow.

This year, as a whole, is looking to be the busiest and best yet. We’re planning a tour toward the end of the year and will be hitting up England and Ireland for the first time and even getting ourselves over to Italy for a few shows which we’re absolutely buzzing for!
