Interview at The Lion’s Den, Deansgate
Fresh from the buzz of their latest single “England’s Burning”, Manchester indie outfit Isolation are riding serious momentum. I caught up with Harrison (drums), Jake (lead vocals & guitar), Ben (bass) and Jason (lead guitar & backing vocals) at The Lion’s Den to talk new music, new beginnings and what’s next.
A New Line-Up, A New Energy
Although the band has existed in earlier forms, the current line-up has been together since September — and they’re clear that the change was exactly what they needed.
“The line-up change brought different points of view and influences. It’s blended into something that really feels like Isolation now.”
They currently have three tracks out, with “England’s Burning” landing just a couple of weeks ago and already turning heads.
Manchester Roots, 90s Influence
Isolation wear their influences proudly. Think early ’90s indie swagger — the melodic confidence of The Stone Roses, the anthemic punch of Oasis — but with their own modern edge.
“We’ve come a long way since forming. It feels like things are really clicking now.”
There’s also a strong connection to the underground scene. The band credit smaller local acts and gig culture as much as big names.
“A lot of our inspiration comes from watching bands on the local circuit — how they perform, how they organise themselves. You learn so much from that.”
Big Support Slots & Momentum Building
For a relatively new line-up, they’ve already built an impressive CV.
• Supported The Real People
• Played alongside Northside
• Sold over 100 tickets at their own headline show
• Secured festival slots for the summer
Not bad going.
Drummer Harrison, who also helps manage the band, has used years of experience and contacts to open doors.
“I’ve been drumming since I was three. My dad was a drummer too. A lot of our opportunities have come through building relationships and putting ourselves out there.”
Studio Plans & An EP on the Horizon
The band head back into the studio in April. Two songs are already strong contenders — including crowd favourite “Off My Mind”.
The aim?
A four to five track EP by late this year or early next year.
“We’re still deciding what to record, but the plan is definitely an EP.
Terrace Culture & The Indie Revival
Isolation also tap into football and terrace culture — something that naturally seeps into their sound and style.
With guitar bands rising again and indie fashion making a comeback, the lads feel something shifting.
“It feels like there’s a new indie revolution happening. You can see it at gigs — the clobber’s back, the energy’s back.”
They’re also embracing the modern side of the industry, pushing content on TikTok and promoting online.
“The industry’s gone more virtual. You’ve got to put yourself out there.”
Desert Island Sacrifice (Because Why Not?)
No band interview is complete without a bit of chaos.
When asked who they’d sacrifice on a desert island…
Jason was the popular choice.
Reasons ranged from “can’t sing in tune” to “likes doing too many solos.”
All said with laughter (mostly).
Final Word
Isolation might only be months into this new chapter, but the trajectory is clear. Big gigs. Strong singles. A developing sound rooted in Manchester heritage but looking forward.
Watch this space.
These lads are going places.
