Rising star Ravel Lumba has shared the new indie/folk single, ‘Turn Back Time’.
The East Midlands singer, who first caught my attention as the support act for a show in London, has been performing ‘Turn Back Time’ at several gigs up and down the country. Now it’s his third single in the build up to April’s EP ‘Through The Deep End’.
The track itself channels that late-night voice in the back of your head. One that grasps at those “What-if” moments nagging away at peaceful, tranquil times.
It’s great to see Lumba acknowledge these mistakes, and the growth that comes from this, which is painted perfectly through the melancholic delivery of the track.
This track creates this imagery through a soft, delicate strum of acoustic guitar, accompanied by wandering strings and the occasional delicate piano melody.

His vocals croon at the top of the mix. They’re given space to breathe, which helps listeners understand and derive their own personal interpretations. Instead of escaping the past, he’s examining the small decisions that help forge a path to your current situation.
Lumba told Songbird HQ: “We live in an age where everything is about moving forward. Don’t look back, shoving positivity down your throat. But my song is about being okay with having regrets, or owning your mistakes.”
He continues: “It’s about looking back on past experiences and thinking “Yeah I could’ve done that better” because we all do that. It’s what makes us human”.

Recorded, mixed at mastered by Natt Webb at RatCat Studios in November, Lumba worked closely to portray the strong meaning he set out to achieve.
Working with Webb to understand the emotional weight and heartfelt quality, they left the sessions with a sense of capturing something unique, and a song that was destined to tug on the heartstrings.
The pop/indie/rock singer-songwriter releases ‘Turn Back Time’ almost 2 months since his last release ‘Sofa Surfing’. Both of which are leading towards his third studio EP ‘Through The Deep End’, which is expected to release mid-April.
If you’re looking for folk-inspired indie/pop tracks that thrive on lived experiences, depicting introspective thoughts and harsh realities, look no further than Ravel Lumba.
