WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO PROVE?

Friday 17th September sees Southampton indie rock band, Pioneers, release their eagerly anticipated new single ‘What Have You Got To Prove?’

The four piece band is made up of Sam Watts on Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, Toby Gathercole on Lead Guitar, Sam Over on Bass Guitar and Charlie Filde on Drums.

The band were formed in 2017 and since inception have gone on to take the music industry by storm after their single “Take Time” was picked up and played on BBC Radio One by Dev, Scott Mills, Greg James and Clara Amfo and the band further chatted on air to Alice Levine.

Pioneers are now back with their latest offering “What Have You Got To Prove” which looks set to be the band’s biggest release to date. The track was written by front man Sam Watts during lockdown and was recorded at the world famous Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire, Wales which is also home to Oasis’ “What’s The Story”, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Coldplay’s “Parachutes”. The track was produced by Josh Tyrell.

From the word go “What Have You Got To Prove” draws you in with the relentless rhythm section driving the track forward to the inimitable lead guitar lines and bass beats, it builds a platform on which frontman, Sam Watts, can lay down the superb vocals. This track demonstrates just how solid a unit Pioneers are, reminding us of their prowess as a live band and their knack for a hook. With lyrics like “Tell your friends I’m going in circles again, but that’s just me, I hear what you’re saying, always complaining. Tell your friends I’m going in circles again, but that’s just me, I hear what you’re saying, gonna try to change it” this track has the potential to be a huge indie anthem of our generation.

What’s more is the poignant and totally relevant message behind the track itself. You’d  be hard pushed to find a more apt release detailing that feeling of how we all need to learn to accept ourselves for who we are and learn to enjoy living in the everyday.

Front man Sam says of the single itself:

We are so happy to be able to finally release this new single. We were inspired to be in such a world renowned studio. I wrote this track during lockdown whilst everyone was a bit confused about how best to manage their time. I think the world we live in today, we as people are influenced to be moulded in a specific way. This track is about finding your individuality and if you spend too much time trying to be something that’s expected of you, you’re gonna miss out on the now. As the title suggests, Who have you got to prove yourself to? It’s important to accept your flaws and enjoy yourself whilst you still can”

What Have You Got To Prove” received its first exclusive radio play on BBC Introducing last week where it achieved the accolade of “Record of The Week”. We are without doubt that this new release is going to continue the upward trajectory of this incredibly promising band. With previous radio plays on BBC Radio One, playing at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival and a string of tour dates with new music champions “This Feeling” already ahead of them, there really is no telling as to where these boys will end up next, but you know it’s going to be big!
