DEAR YOU
Chill-Out Track Of The Day
First of all, great marketing ploy, 30 second clip in my email – some people need to listen to the whole thing, before they get it, but it compelled me to go listen to the full thing on Spotify. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone to do, because sometimes it takes longer than that!
Anyway, to the song!
This is a simple acoustic number, I love the rhythmic play very percussive as the strings are played slightly muted as well as strummed, great chords too. The song is written in the form of a letter, and the vocals are powerful, with gorgeous melodies.

As it’s vocals and guitar, you can hear what the mix engineer has done, there’s reverb on both the vocals and guitar, but listening to this on my headphones I can hear the background vocals are split left and right giving you the feel as if there are people surrounding one mic.
Matilda to me has a great pop voice, but I reckon she’s got soulful tendencies in there, she’s got a husky voice in her lower range, and it’s pleasant to the ear so that tells me that given the chance she could go a little rocky if she wanted to, she also reminds me of Jewel Klicher which is not a bad thing, I absolutely love Jewel.
All in all, this is great. I’m glad I took that 30 second chance.
Matilda is a 20 year old singer songwriter from the West Midlands, a law student at Oxford, and this was recorded in LA this summer, where she also did some gigs.
She has performed at festivals and events all across the country, including headlining The Sunflower Lounge (Birmingham) this Summer, CarFest, Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park as well as being invited to sing the National Anthem at Twickenham Stadium for the Oxford v Cambridge Varsity Rugby Matches.
