LIREDEL is a Singer/Songwriter/Musician from Southampton. She says that music has always been her passion in life in which she seeks to highlight the battles within the world today whilst always still trying to see the positive in everything around her. LIREDEL tellls us that she believes her songs always have a three way explaination to them; “1) they are written for the people going through the issues, 2) and for the people who are helping out and 3) for the people who are on the outside of things and seeing it from their own prospectives.”
We were delighted to recently catch up with LIREDEL for a little chat whilst she was down in our corner of the world and recording new music at The Libertines HQ; The Albion Rooms in Margate.
LIREDEL tells us about her lastest release which focuses on dealing with the all important issues of Mental Health, plus she lets us know how she came to record with the highly regarded legendary actor and main star of The Libertines, ‘RUN, RUN. RUN’ video; Geoff Bell.

THE SONGIRD: – Hi Liredel, lovely to see you back in Margate! Thanks for taking the time to answer
some questions for us as I know you’ve been a busy bee!
After your debut album ‘Rebirth’, you chose to record at The Albion Rooms once again for the second album ‘Reborn’ As you said yourself that you feel that you are a part of our ‘Wasteland Family’ now, so come on, tell us what was it that attracted you to The Albion Rooms in the first place?
LIREDEL:- “I first saw a video of The Albion Rooms being built on YouTube and watched it grow into the beautiful place it is now, then a littlebit after, I went to watch a band I know and I mentioned to them that I write music and was thinking of recording at Albion Rooms and they said “hell yeah do it.” I’m so glad I did though as it’s a fantastic place, Jason Stafford and the whole team are amazing to work with. Timothy Midnight, who helped put drums over alot of my tracks is great, it’s been super fun and it’s been such a beautiful journey so far. The views, the rooms and the people, it’s a perfect place to record.”

THE SONGBIRD:- Yeah, I can tell how much you love it here, you fit right in! Can you tell me a bit
about the new single?
LIREDEL:- “My newest single, ‘SCRIPT’ is about not dealing with your mental health and deteriorating and suffering the repocussions from it because of leaving it so long. It was a sad song to write but I felt this one was my strongest songs for this topic. I’m hoping that by bringing my music out it helps to deliver the right messages for those who may be struggling with how to cope with different things, or those who suffer with mental health or to those that have grieved and are coming to the other side. I’m hoping it will give a positive impact as we worked hard to keep the music positive even though the messages are throughout the music.” The other new singles I cannot name or give away as of yet nor the release date but you will know as soon as it’s out there. I’ve also just recorded two singles with Geoff Bell as a collaboration and will be announced shortly, that’s all I can say. My collaboration with Geoff Bell came about as he heard one of my songs on the radio and got into contact about a collaberation and the rest as they say is history!”

THE SONGBIRD:– Amazing! You’ve previously told me that your parents and grandparents shared the same passion for music as you, the songs must mean a lot. Your previous music videos have always seemed really raw, are you fiming the new ones in a similar style?
LIREDEL:- “The music videos I’ve made so far, I filmed entirely on my phone! I did this purposely as I wanted to keep it in a style like the 90’s almost like your walking around with an old video camera plus it’s videos mixed with photos, my journey in most of them from Southampton to The Albion Rooms. There will be professional music videos on the way in 2025 though. ‘Milkshake and Skates’, ‘Rhythm&Soul’ and ‘Talking Tea Cups’ don’t have music videos yet and the two new singles that are going to be released this year don’t have videos as of yet either, but they be done next year, so watch this space!”

THE SONGBIRD:- Thanks so much for that, I really appreciate it, next year is going to be so exciting
for you. A few quick fire questions before you go!
THE SONGIRD:- Cheese or chocolate?
LIREDEL:- “Depends that’s a tough one! I love cheese on pizza, pasta, toast all day long so it has to be cheese.. chocolate nah not unless it’s the Matilda cake, then that’s a winner.”
THE SONGIRD:- Dogs or Cats?
LIREDEL:- “That’s like asking me to pick my favourite child, I have cats but I’m a dog person too.”

THE SONGIRD:- You’re on deathrow, what would your final meal, drink and choice of song be?
LIREDEL:- “Food :Spaghetti Bolognese, half block of cheese and a knickerbocker glory.”
“Drink: JD or Red Stripe.”
“Song: The Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera.”
THE SONGBIRD: – I just have the image of Bruce Bogtrotter covered in chocolate, eating half a block of cheese with a JD now! Thanks again for answering the questions, we are all really looking forward to the upcoming announcements and I’m sure we will see you back in Margate again soon for another session down The Wasteland xx
