Celebrating 20 years of Razorlight as the band embark on UK anniversary tour

SPECIAL EDITION OUT DECEMBER 11

British indie heroes Razorlight will release a special 20th anniversary edition red double vinyl and CD of their pivotal five-times platinum-selling self-titled album – out December 11 via Virgin Music Group.

The band are to embark on their UK anniversary tour, kicking off on 26 November in Glasgow before travelling to Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester, Bristol and Belfast, alongside a show at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on 4 December. Find tickets at www.razorlightofficial.com.

Originally released in 2006, the album features mega-hits Before I Fall to Pieces, In the Morning, I Can’t Stop This Feeling I’ve Got and the UK Number 1 single America.

Produced by the band with Chris Thomas and recorded at British Grove Studios in London, it was the album that bore the first fruits of the writing partnership between singer Johnny Borrell and drummer Andy Burrows, who are now playing together once again.

In July, the band treated fans to a never-before-heard demo of America, titled Lost in America, which Borrell described as “the first version that we put down”. Inspired by Prince’s success with Nothing Compares 2 U when it was recorded by Sinéad O’Connor, he initially planned to find someone else to make a hit of it.

He said: “We tried to ‘sell’ it to any interested artists through our publishers but they were getting no interest. I loved it at this point but felt it was a little too safe for Razorlight.”

The extended release features the track alongside recent single Wilfred Owen, previously unheard early versions of In the Morning (Love, Lust and Lotion) and Before I Fall to Pieces, as well as Who Needs Love? and I Can’t Stop This Feeling I’ve Got.

Following the success of Razorlight, the band maintained their momentum with the platinum-selling Slipway Fires, which produced the No. 3 hit single in Germany and Austria, Wire to Wire.

The band’s last run on the road saw the classic lineup reunite for a triumphant tour in support of their best-of compilation, Razorwhat? The Best of Razorlight. The shows marked a period of reconciliation and renewed momentum, with the group rebuilding bridges and reconnecting on stage. In particular, Borrell and co-songwriter and drummer Andy Burrows reestablished their creative partnership, reviving a relationship that had been both artistically fruitful and, at times, tumultuous.

Razorlight’s debut album, Up All Night, went four-times platinum, selling 1.2 million copies in the UK. In the years since, the band have connected with a new generation of fans, averaging more than 1.6 million monthly Spotify listeners. Their achievements include a UK No. 1 album, a Number 1 single, three UK Top 5 albums, two multi-platinum albums and eight UK Top 20 singles.

Razorlight will be supported on tour by The Molotovs, with The K’s also joining the bill at OVO Arena Wembley.
