The latest installment in our series of “Talking to The Songbird” Interviews is with Andrew Cushin.

So, who exactly is this young lad from Newcastle who describes himself on his Facebook Page as an “Ex goalkeeping darts player that enjoys singing a few tunes in stone island jackets and adidas trainers”!

Andrew Cushin seems to have been catapulted into the spotlight in a very short space of time with some big names in the industry showing a keen interest and in him and his music.

As such, Andrew looks set to have a packed schedule ahead of him which will see him work on his debut EP, with plans to launch the same at The Cluny in Newcastle on the 07/03/2020. If you were hoping to get tickets to this at This Feeling organised event, I’m afraid your already too late with tickets completely selling out within just 7 days!! Do keep an eye on Andrew’s social media links for further tour and upcoming gig information though. Andrew is currently on tour with Bang Bang Romeo and has plans to release two singles before the end of the year.

Andrew Cushin recently spent some time Talking to The Songbird and it went like this……

Who/What are your musical influences? What sort of genre would you consider your music to be?

The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Oasis, The Roses, Paul Weller, Neil Young, Donovan, Johnny Cash, The Libertines, The Real People, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Singer songwriter, acoustic style of music incorporating alternative, rockabilly and indie tunes.

What’s your favourite song of yours and why?

A tune called “Where You Now?” Which was written and recorded on the day my dad past, since then I don’t play it but it holds significant meaning … this ain’t no X factor sob story neither!

What’s your favourite song of all time by any other band/artist and why?

Me and you by Jake Bugg, mine and wor lasses song, it’s a belta!

What do you consider the best lyric you’ve ever written to be?

“The only friend I have is here,He’s built with strings and listening ears”

What are you listening to at the moment?

Well currently my Manager is finding it acceptable to blast Lazy Sunday by The Small Faces on route to a gig in Cardiff … what a wanka. I’m listening to a lot of Donovan and The Real People at the minute.

What’s going on with you at the moment? Do you have any gigs planed or upcoming events?

I’m currently on a UK tour with Bang Bang Romeo but as well as that we have a lot of exciting gigs to be announced shortly, those also being across the UK. It’s also planned that I’ll have my debut single and music video out by the end of October!

What’s been the best gig you’ve played so far and what would be your dream gig to play?

At a small bar over the water in Gateshead. The bar was called “The Station East” I’ve played bigger shows but that was my first ever shot at getting up and chanting a few tunes. I was supporting a band made of bank managers … how rock n roll eh?
My dream gig would be on the moon standing alongside mr Noelly G … or anywhere for that matter.

Who would you most like to share a stage with (past or present)?

John fucking Lennon, Easy!!

What’s the best thing and worst thing about being in a band?

I’m not in a band which means I can just please myself, if I don’t wanna do something I can just fuck it off, the money’s better as well!

What three words best sum you up as a musician ?

Heart Felt Lyrics.
