The Escapist – Track of The Day

I’m in the presence of BBC Introducing royalty here….

Kitty is the BBC Introducing Norfolk host, and came to my attention via my fellow Fresh On The Net moderator and sometime co writer Marina Flo.

This is her new single The Escapist, and I love the delicateness of her vocals on this against the backdrop of big instrumentation which paradoxically isn’t overdone.

She sits right in the mix, and makes herself heard, for which I’m so proud of her for on this.

I like her harmonies on this, alternating on different lines as well as deploying unison vocals to pad it out a little bit too.

The piano is played beautifully too emphasising the melody…. Chef’s kiss for this! Wow.

Drums. Now this is interesting, because with the drums it’s all toms, snare and kick, until around the 2:32 where it opens up to ride, kick and snare, under a lovely guitar solo.

This song is perfect for a sunday morning, I’m off to have my toasted bagels now, but Kitty’s really got me set up for the day.

So…. Kitty Perrin.

Who is she?

Well, according to her Spotify: Kitty Perrin is a singer-songwriter based in Norwich, having relocated from Brighton for University and quickly built a name for herself in East Anglia. Through melancholy indie-pop, Kitty Perrin shares intimate and personal stories with her listeners, coloured by sharp and sometimes caustic lyrics.

Her penmanship is reminiscent of Alternative-Indie legends – Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, Conor Oberst – and modern contemporaries such as Lucy Dacus, Waxahatchee & Julien Baker.

To date, her music has seen support from BBC Music Introducing and BBC Radio 6 Music.
