The wait is finally over as Australian Indie Rock Trio DMA’S treat fans for their patience with their self-titled 11 track album that perfectly encapsulates a mature view point looking back on previous years and experiences with a sense of nostalgia all wrapped up in an effortlessly following story-telling narrative packed with sing a long choruses and mosh pit ready anthems.

This release is the band’s 5th stuido album and its packed with tracks that will be instantly recognisable to the listener with its unmistakable DMA’S sound whilst at the same time being easily able to deliver a new and diverse listening experince to fans old and new.
Packed with diversity, the album jumps straight in with the opening track ‘El Alamein’ a guitar heavy track overload with the echoing vocals of Tommy O’Dell. There’s a clear britpop influence to the track, but its mixed with elements of grunge setting it apart from the band’s earlier works.
The second track, ‘My Baby’s Place’ a song that was previously releases as a single is a dreamy soundscape with simple lyrcisim making it an instant classic which flows effortlessly along making it a sure fan favourite. It gives the listener a sense of comfort like revisiting an old friend of good memory.
Next up ‘Hurricane’ starts with an upbeat guitar melody with repetitive lyricism making it instantly memorable. Its a feel good track firming siding on more pop than rock indie that lasts with the listener long after the track has finished.

Changing tack entirely we’ve got ‘Killing Time’ which seeks to change the atompshere of the room with its high octaine tempo and energy. O’Dells vocals are infectious with sing-a-long hook lines, a rallying cry to teenage angst everywhere.
Constantly keeping the listener engaged ‘Heatin Park’ gives another switch up in both sound and tempo, with weeping guitars and heavy percussion. The track is allowed to breathe and this in turn makes it easy for the instruments to really shine. Matt Mason and Johnny Took display a taught tension in sound, building anticipation beautifully which is sure to go off whipping the crowds into a frenzy, when performed live.
On the ever changing spinning wheel that this album seems to portray were then taken on yet another change of pace with ‘Emaliz’. This track with its ballard style showcases a more emotive and vulnerable side to the band and their music. At 3 and half minutes its a beautiful love song that is sure to be adopted my many a couple in love.
This theme is continued in ‘One & Only’ which although another love song, its must more intense and cinematic. its roots are embedded in rock sensibilities, but the lyricism is pure romantic.
With a stripped back acoustic sound the band launch into ‘Dancing Luck’ and ‘Concrete’. The paired down instrumentals on these tracks allow O’Dell’s story telling lyricism to really come to the forefront, making for an intimate experince for the listener as they are picturing the tales being told.
‘Windows’ is the penultimate track on the album and it comes across as a very reflective track, taking a quiet moment to look back on all of life’s loves and losses. It’s nostaglia ridden, but with a quiet acceptance of why things can never just stay the stay; progress and evolution is essential to success and survival.
The closing track ‘Distance’ is what we’ve come to know and expect, an outright indie stomper scattered with epic guitar solos and full throttle drums. Its a whirlwind of sound and energy climaxing in a sound so loved of DMA’S while also bringing something brand new to the table.

The album as a whole is a the epitome of what DMA’S do best; its unmistakenly their signature sound but with added elements resulting a more mature and polished sound for the band as a whole. Throughout the album lyricism becomes the star player being delivered with a sense of purpose and intent its authentic in bucketloads which in turns allows the music surrounding them to really lift the whole experience, resonating and winning over listeners worldwide for many years to come.
.Written and recorded between their own studio in Glebe, Sydney, LA and Nashville and produced by the band alongside Grammy nominated producer Lach Bostock (Mansionair), Jimi Somewhere and Styalz Fuego, DMA’S also includes a writing collaboration with 3%’s Nooky on the opening track ‘El Alamein’.
