SHAKE THE CAGE (für Theo)

Shake The Cage (für Theo) ’ is the brand new single released today (19th March) from Scottish duo Glasvegas who are signed to Alan McGee’s Creation Management company.

The relationship between McGee and the band goes beyond their management deal with this new track also being played over the end credits of McGee’s new movie ‘Creation Stories’ which is written by Irvine Welsh and executively produced by Danny Boyle and which comes out tomorrow (20th March) on Sky Cinema and Now TV.

Shake The Cage” was chosen as the only current track to be featured within the film, and the band say that the track is a kind of “dystopian, free-associative ‘Choose life’ sermon” which is demonstrated with lyrics like “Stand on a wave / calculate quantum mechanics / Surf, dance / Believe in chance”

The idea for Shake The Cage (für Theo), has a somewhat unusual origin with James from the band saying the idea came to him..

“…as I was looking down at my nephew after he was born and I thinking, ‘what would I say if he could understand me?”

The remainder James says he variously credits to Stephen Hawking’s ‘A Brief History of Time’, Phillip Glass’ opera ‘Einstein on the Beach’ and his audio listening to the Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s autobiography ‘I Am Zlatan’.

“That song used to be even weirder” James promises, but Shake The Cage remains ‘plenty weird’ in its finished state!

This special show will take place on April 9th and will be broadcast online via Veeps.

ITV recently commissioned a special film to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dunblane Primary School tragedy, which featured original music written by James Allan of Glasvegas.
