“I Just Can’t Believe That We Share The Same Name”

Track Review and Band Interview

No, You haven’t misread, as delighted as we would be to witness The Dark Destroyer and The Governess as well as the other ‘Chasers’ from the hit TV quiz show form a band and treat us to some hit singles, “The Chase” are in fact an interesting quartet from Nottingham, who are breaking down musical norms and giving us a symbiotic treat of genres not necessarily formed before which is a natural delight to the ears.

Peanut butter and Jam, Salt and caramel, Take That and Lulu, Ska and Indie – These combinations may not seem immediately natural, but it is only when you produce the finished article and realise what you have created is a moment of genius that the combination becomes commonplace.

Unfortunately ‘The Chase’ haven’t quite reunited Lulu and Take That (damn!!) but fortunately for us and the music they have manufactured is a fantastic hook, bringing a bouncy ska rhythm to gritty indie sounds to produce a memorable track I just cant believe that we share the same name” which embodies a typical sibling rivalry between band members and real life brothers Tyler and Dion Heaney.

“I’d love to get my hands around your throat until you’ve nothing left to say. I love you I hate you, I just can’t believe that we share the same name”

Joined by Bassist Luke Childs and Keyboardist James Cahill, the brothers display their vocal talents in an almost stage inspired musical manner with a vocal ‘tête à tête’ that millions of siblings around the world would find all too familiar yet somewhat endearing with a sound and feeling deeply entrenched within the bands council estate roots. Along with a similarity to Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson added into an upbeat ska rhythm this track has all the makings of a guaranteed memorable hit.

The Chase have received plenty of media attention already and its not hard to see why. With gigs and live music returning in the not so distant future, with “i just cant believe that we share the same name” in their repertoire which will no doubt be a live ‘banger’, there is no doubt “The Chase” will be finding their way to everyones must see bands lists of 2021 and beyond.

Listen to the track here now which is available to download and stream on all major music platforms now.

INTERVIEW

Hey Guys, thanks so much for talking to us, it’s been a challenging year to say the least, how have you all managed to stay positive, motivated and more importantly creative?

Cheers for having us! Despite the world falling to bits we’ve managed to stay positive and motivated just by not stopping even when the rest of the world has slowed down. For us slowing down has never been an option and it never will be!

You’ve just released your latest track ‘I Just can’t believe that we share the same name’, where did the idea for the track come from?

I (Tyler) was on a plane back from Cyprus and was past the point of boredom and was looking for something to do to pass the time, so I thought I’d attempt to write a tune. Obviously, I had no instruments with me so I just tapped my foot and began to write some lyrics. I’ve always wanted a song that would suite Dion (Drums/Brother) on the lead vocals, so I thought a song about ourselves would be the perfect opportunity. It’s based on the regular insults that we hurl at one another!

What bands on the unsigned scene have you been listening to recently?

We’ve been right into Scott Bugg and the Vital Few, Tom Lumley and the Brave Liaison and The Skinner Brothers.

Have you always wanted to be in a band? If you weren’t doing this job what would you be doing?

We’ve often wondered this, couldn’t imagine us doing anything else. If so, James would definitely be the pigeon lady out of Home Alone A.K.A Piers Morgan, Luke would be working at Legoland (Please see Hair Attached), Dion would be a full time sloth and Tyler would be a failed footballer talking of his glory days if it weren’t for his medlling knee!

Everyone is missing live gigs so much, what was the last band/artist you saw live and what songs would we be surprised to see in your playlist?

The last live band I (James) watched live pre-Covid was The Libertines back in December 2019, feels like a lifetime ago now. As for surprising tracks in our playlists, for me (Tyler) it’s gotta be Arianna Grande, right into 34+35 at the minute. James’ surprising musical endeavours would be Slipknots’ Before I Forget. For Dion it would be Me and Mary Jane by Blackstone Cherry. And as Luke as he isn’t currently here with us, we’ll decide for him, Machine Gun Kelly (he is absolutely HORRIFIC, he is the soundtrack to many nightmares!)

You guys are playing at ‘Rewired Festival’ in August, you must be so excited. If you could play any venue in the world, what would it be?

Yesssssss, we are buzzing to finally have some dates in the diary again, huge thanks to This Feeling for putting us on! If we could play any stage in the world it would without doubt be Celtic Park, I (Tyler) think I would be on the verge of tears for an Hour and Half.

Lastly, what can the fans look forward to from The Chase in the next 12 months?

Some more bangers! We’ve also got our biggest headline show to date at Rescue Rooms, Nottingham on August 20th! There’s a lot more dates to be confirmed, just can’t mention them yet so be sure to keep an eye out…
