Blossoms have released new single ‘Joke About Divorce‘ today, featuring backing vocals from Rick Astley.
The buoyant new single is the first release for the Stockport indie heroes since their 2024 album ‘Gary’.
The five-piece have sauntered into their new era with the indie-pop mover, seeping in disco DNA. It’s a classic Blossoms sound, blending their signature indie-rock roots with a funky rhythm section and 80s style synth-pop.

debuting ‘Joke About Divorce’ on BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show on Monday evening, Frontman Tom Ogden revealed the tongue-in-cheek story behind the song.
He quipped it came during an argument between Ogden and his wife, where he used some ill-judged humour to disarm the situation. Naturally, this made things worse, and he found that moment so striking he turned it into a three-and-a-half minute pop song.
Musically, this feels like a clear evolution of the Gary era, with Myles Kellock‘s bouncing synths teaming with Josh Dewhurst‘s staggered riffs to produce a slinky sound. Meanwhile, in the rhythm section, Joe Donavon‘s rattling drums pair with Charlie Salt‘s classic meandering, energetic bassline to fuel a jive-infused energy.

In the chorus, Ogden chimes “I guess this arguments not the place for a joke about divorce. My intention’s are just a playful thing to make you laugh of course”.
Produced by Shawn Lee and released via Odd SK Recording and Distiller Music, there’s also an accompanying music video which see’s Tom Ogden take control in his signature surreal fashion, parading around a pink-washed set.

Rick Astley see’s the single out with a patronising dressing down of Ogden.
The four-time UK number 1 band hinted to The BBC that a new album is in progress. Whenever that’ll be, I’ll be seeing you in fields and in the venues for a classic Blossoms boogie.
